About the Event
Yingi Goma invites you into the story behind Waterside Boy, a project that has been unfolding since 2016. Over the course of three series, the work has moved from the streets of the Niger Delta to masquerade ceremony, from menswear to womenswear, from cultural observation to personal inquiry.
In this small-group conversation, Yingi will share how the project began, how it has changed, and what it has taught her about heritage, identity, power and making as a form of learning. She will talk through the research, the design process, the shift to focusing on the women of the Niger Delta in Series 3, and the personal reasons this work exists. This is an open conversation and portfolio showcase of work.
