Light: tolerates low to bright indirect light; avoid direct sun, which scorches the thin waxy leaves. Water: very drought-tolerant -- water only once the soil is completely dry, roughly every 2-3 weeks. Its rhizomes store water, so overwatering (not underwatering) is the real risk, especially through PH's long rainy season if kept outdoors. Soil: well-draining mix (peat/coir + perlite + sand); pot must have drainage holes, never let it sit in a wet saucer. Humidity: handles PH's humidity and heat with no special adjustment needed. Feeding: diluted liquid fertiliser 3-4 times during the rainy/growing season. Common issues: yellowing leaves or soft stems = overwatering/root rot, by far the most common failure mode locally. Mildly toxic if ingested; keep from pets/children.

Port Harcourt / Nigeria climate note: hot year-round (approx. 25-34C) with high humidity (avg ~71%, rising to 80-88% in the rainy season, May-Oct). This generally means less need for artificial humidity for humidity-loving plants when kept outdoors, faster soil drying in heat for well-drained pots, and a real risk of overwatering/root rot for drought-tolerant plants if exposed to heavy seasonal rain without good drainage.
