Light: bright, indirect light; tolerates medium light. Avoid direct sun. Variegated forms need brighter light to hold their colour. Water: allow the top inch of soil to dry, then water thoroughly -- roughly every 5-7 days, as PH's heat dries soil faster than temperate guides suggest. Soil: well-draining potting soil; pot must have drainage. Humidity: thrives in PH's naturally high humidity, no misting needed outdoors. Feeding: general houseplant fertiliser at reduced rate, once a month in the rainy season. Common issues: yellowing leaves = overwatering/poor drainage. Toxic to pets if ingested.

Port Harcourt / Nigeria climate note: hot year-round (approx. 25-34C) with high humidity (avg ~71%, rising to 80-88% in the rainy season, May-Oct). This generally means less need for artificial humidity for humidity-loving plants when kept outdoors, faster soil drying in heat for well-drained pots, and a real risk of overwatering/root rot for drought-tolerant plants if exposed to heavy seasonal rain without good drainage.
